How can my friend and i get jobs in the fashion Industry?

my friend and i are fashion designers, were both not working Right now and i was wondering if there were any tips on places we could apply to/work that would help further our fashion ambitions, and possibly give us experience in the industry. Im not trying to be a Sales Associate at a mall, ive done it before and iv pretty much absorbed all i could from that experience. Thank You!!!!! BTW we live in Washington D.C.
